Dragon Youth Entrepreneur Summit Sees Success in First Year!

While school was out, Southlake’s youth entrepreneurs were taking full advantage of Summer Break!

On Saturday, July 29^th, the Southlake Foundation hosted their first annual Youth Entrepreneur Summit at Southlake Tutoring Academy. More than 30 youth entrepreneurs from Southlake, and the surrounding area, came together to collaborate on youth entrepreneurship and promote their businesses. Various types of businesses were represented at the summit, many of them selling clothing, jewelry, art, gifts, and baked goods. There were also a number of businesses providing services, such as lawn care, and non-profit organizations focused on improving quality of life locally, and on a global scale! Doors were open to the public from 2-5pm for shopping, snacking, and to support these incredible young entrepreneurs!

Project Leader Isha Ponoth was inspired to create the event because of her own need and the needs of her peers who have started businesses but were left wondering how to market their businesses and expand their reach. The three-hour event provided the opportunity for entrepreneurs to have a physical space to discuss their businesses with potential customers, build confidence, and build brand awareness for their incredible businesses and non-profit organizations in the Southlake community.

Southlake’s Mayor Pro Tem Shawn McCaskill was in attendance for the duration of the event and shared his thoughts “events like this make Southlake the community that it is, not only the support the community provides these young business owners, but the motivation these kids have to make an impact in their community and in the world as entrepreneurs puts them well ahead of their time”.
